Jennelle Cruz Post 1

Starting off with group one, they did their presentation on
chapters 1-4 which was pretty much giving us the basics on presenting and
preparing for our presentations. I liked all the colors of their PowerPoint and
the cute little characters and pictures that they had through their
presentation, which really helped me maintain my attention on their
presentation since I get distracted so easily. We hear about how some people
can get nervous (enough to question if they will die) during their presentation.
This is usually my first thought before I present but they reassure us that
there is not really a way of dying during a presentation unless we are in a
country that outlaws freedom of speech and we speak out on something- it’s
comforting to hear that my nervousness is for no legitimate reason and I’m
actually just over thinking. We learn about the 7 components of a presentation
and how important it is to pay attention to all of them. The pictures they put in
their presentation will definitely stay in my head so I can remember exactly
what I need for my presentation to be a success. I really appreciated how the
concept of plagiarism was explained because as a student the last thing I want
to do is lose points on my work just because I forgot to add quotations and it
counts as plagiarism. Once again it was comforting to hear a presentation acknowledge
and give advice on how to manage anxiety that comes from your first speech/presentation.
This nervousness can definitely be taken under control if we get good resources
for our information and prepare correctly. I enjoyed the video they played
during their presentation because it gave me something extra to pay attention to.
I’m glad we got a lot of tips on the different presentations and how to
delivers them effectively. I didn’t really take into consideration how
important audience analysis is until I saw the presentations so now I know to
interact more with the audience. This presentation was overall easy to
understand and had great visuals.
Group 2 (the group I was in) we gave a presentation about
how to do your research, reliable and unreliable sources, how to effectively
write out a speech, outlining and practicing, along with a couple other topics.
I personally really like how our came out with all our visuals and our
coloring. I may be a biased source of information, which is a topic we spoke
about in it. The explanation for why we should research thoroughly (to be
prepared and avoid anxiety) was very clear and well put, I do believe we have a
lot less to worry about if we are very prepared. That being said we also heard that
we should be careful when doing research so we don’t pick a source that may have
incorrect information or is plainly biased, we are also given precise tips on
what to look for to indicate we found a good source for our research. In our
presentation we also have sections telling the audience how to effectively
write out and outline their speech. These topics I hadn’t really paid much mind
to, but after hearing how my group mates explained it, I’ll be sure to pay
attention to how I pick an outline style and organize it in a way that will
benefit me. My group mates also gave good examples on relating the topic and
how to warn that the speech is coming to an end, these are important in sounding
invested in your presentation. Another very important topic we touched on was finding
the main point of your presentation, I thought that it was very important for
people to learn about this because I have seen some presenters not focus
exactly on what they should be talking about and end up straying too far and
they cant really pick back up what they should have been talking about or they
simply lost all the time they were allowed. This part of the presentation was a
good reminder to not forget what your main point is. My part of the
presentation was actually something I had not heard about much prior to doing
this project which was how many modes of speaking there was. I found making
this presentation a very good learning opportunity. I also thought the
importance of rate and rhythm of your speech was explained very clearly. Some
of my group mates added some really interesting videos and examples to further our
audiences knowledge on what our chapters presentations is about. I overall
enjoyed the result that my group and I got on our presentation.
Group 3 gave a really good presentation with colorful
visuals which once again I was very happy to see. I learned that for
informative presentations it is very important to build a hunger for
information from your audience to make sure you keep them interested in what
your talking to them about. This is going to be in my mind every time I do a
presentation because I can’t stand when I’m giving a presentation or speaking
about something and I see my audience is losing interest. That just makes my nervousness
even worse. This presentation was giving us very good tips and tricks on how to
keep your audience interested and focused on what you’re talking about. This
presentation also helped remind me that we need to be very ethical on how we
are delivering our presentation. I would not want to slip up and have someone
in my audience think that I am not someone who is trustworthy enough to listen
to. This presentation was very good at explaining just how important analyzing the
audience is. We need to have the audiences input, even if they aren’t directly speaking
to us so that we know how to adjust our presentation so everyone understands.
The presentations in this class were very clear for me to understand which was surprising
for our first project. I enjoyed learning about everyone’s chapters and I was
not left with any questions.

...and thank goodness nothing happened to anyone while they were speaking. Very good reflection and yes no one to my knowledge has ever died because they gave a speech. Nice reflection.
